When women rise, communities thrive.
With support from Global Greengrants Fund (GGF), Safe Space Development Foundation (SHADEF) hosted an inspiring community event in Mbo LGA themed “Intersectional Justice for Gender and Environment.”
The gathering created a safe and empowering space for women to learn, share experiences, build solidarity, and advocate for their rights and communities.
The event highlighted the important connection between gender equality, environmental justice, and community wellbeing. Women shared their experiences and explored how environmental challenges, including the use of hazardous chemicals in fishing, poor waste management, and erosion gullies, affect women and their families in unique ways.
Through open discussions and knowledge-sharing, participants demonstrated confidence in identifying challenges and developing inclusive solutions that place women’s voices at the centre of environmental decision-making. Their contributions reinforced a powerful message: justice for the environment must also mean justice for the people who depend on it.
The project also strengthened women’s capacity for leadership, advocacy, participation, and meaningful action. By equipping women with knowledge and creating platforms for their voices to be heard, SHADEF continues to support women as active leaders and change-makers, from the grassroots to the global stage.
The Mbo gathering was more than a meeting; it was a step toward a movement where women are recognized not merely as beneficiaries of development, but as architects of a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future.
