In June 2025, the Safe Space Development Foundation (SHADEF) held its 2nd General Environmental Assembly for Young Environmentalists in Uyo. Themed “Generation Green: Leading the Way for Environmental Justice,” the event brought students together for a day of interactive learning, creativity, and collaboration.
Activities included team games that tested knowledge, speed, and teamwork; recognition of dedicated teachers such as Mr. Dan of Independence High School, Ukana, and Mr. Wisdom of Special Education School; and a showcase of student inventions made from waste materials, including a raincoat from discarded sachets and shelves from cartons.
Students also created drawings of their ideal environments, expressing visions of clean cities, healthy ecosystems, and solutions to pollution. Expert talks by Miss Mbetobong Embee John and Mr. Ediongsenyene Ndunobong focused on education’s role in building eco-conscious behaviour and turning awareness into action.
Supported by the Global Greengrants Fund, the assembly built on the 2024 edition and reinforced SHADEF’s commitment to practical, inclusive environmental education for young people in Nigeria.
